Fight for a socialist alternative – now and after the election!

Millions of young people will be delighted to see the Tories kicked out at the general election. But a new Starmer Labour government won’t give us a future to look forward to.

We need at least a £15-an-hour minimum wage, living grants that cover the cost of being a student, affordable rents that let us move out, free public transport that actually works – and much more.

Starmer won’t deliver any of this. His government will mean a continuation of Tory cuts, privatisation and support for war.

There is more than enough wealth in society to give everyone a decent life; the problem is that it’s concentrated in the hands of a super-rich minority at the top. That’s why we are fighting to build a mass movement for socialist change, to put wealth, resources and control over society into the hands of the working-class majority – and give all young people a future to look forward to.

So join our fight for a socialist alternative to all the pro-capitalist parties – get involved with Young Socialists to say:

  • No to war and occupation – workers and young people internationally: unite and fight the capitalist warmongers!
  • For mass trade union action to stop arming the Israeli state
  • Mass trade union struggle for a £15-an-hour minimum wage now! Inflation-proof pay rises for all
  • Same pay for the same work! Ban unequal youth pay rates
  • For the right to stable income and working hours – ban zero-hour contracts
  • Scrap tuition fees and cancel all student debt
  • Living grants, not loans, throughout college and university
  • Well-paid apprenticeships and training schemes, with a decent job guaranteed at the end, for all who want it
  • A mass council house building programme to end homelessness and provide genuinely affordable homes for all
  • Rent controls now! Take on dodgy landlords and end slum HMOs
  • High-quality healthcare for all, free at the point of use – kick private companies out of the NHS
  • We won’t pay for the council budget crisis – build a mass campaign to fight council cuts and restore funding for local services
  • Carry out a massive switch to green energy now – take the energy companies under democratic public ownership, to be run by workers and not the bosses
  • A free-to-use, expanded, renationalised public transport system
  • Open new leisure centres, libraries, youth clubs, sports facilities, and careers services for school and college leavers, free at the point of use
  • A safe night out – ensure adequate staffing and proper training in all venues, overseen by democratic committees including trade unions, students and young workers
  • End discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, disability, sexuality, age, and all other forms of prejudice
  • Defend the right to protest and strike
  • Votes at 16!
  • Fight for a new workers’ party to give young people and the wider working class a voice – a socialist alternative to all the establishment parties
  • Fighting and democratic students’ unions in schools, colleges and universities. Build democratic and active trade union youth sections
  • For the banks, monopolies and major industries to be owned and run by the working class to meet everyone’s needs, not the profits of the super-rich
  • For internationalism and working-class solidarity – socialist cooperation and planning of the world’s resources, not capitalist competition and chaos, to give us a future
